After over 30 years of running the Athens, Georgia-located quality chicken Restaurants, Zaxby’s officially revealed that CEO and Co-Founder Zach McLeroy would become chairman of the company. The new Zaxby’s CEO is Bernard Acoca. Bernard’s competence will greatly aid the firm’s growth in running several of the leading restaurant ideas in the U.S. McLeroy’s constant engagement will assure that Zaxby’s culture and founding member history remain a core value.

Childhood colleagues Tony Townley and Zach McLeroy started Zaxby’s in 1990, offering delightful chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches, and salads in a zany, happy atmosphere. Thanks to a dedicated, active franchisee network, the brand has expanded to over 900 stores across 17 states.

The Zaxby’s CEO is an accomplished manager and salesperson with over 20 years of expertise in the restaurant sector. From 2018, Acoca has played the role of El Pollo Loco’s CEO and chairman. In the past three and a half years, Acoca has led the company through a transition in which drive-thru and back-office operations have been simplified; virtual e-commerce has quickly advanced, and the chain has doubled down on its L.A.-Mex positioning strategy in anticipation of aggressive domestic company growth.

Bernard Acoca formerly worked at Starbucks for seven years as a member of the Management Team, holding positions such as chairman of Teavana and executive vice chairman of Sales & Sector for the Americas. He was in charge of overseeing categories with a combined $9B in sales. Acoca spent 10 years with Yum Brands before that, first as director of sales for the Americas for L’Oréal.
