U.S. Crime App Citizen Rolls Out First Paid Tool, Connecting Users To Safety Agents
Citizen App has always been about empowering citizens in their communities. Their goal has always been to give people the tools and information to stay safe, improve their neighborhoods, and build strong, connected communities. Today we are taking one more step in that direction by starting a public safety service for our app.
Citizen App takes the lead on creating the “Internet of Citizen Safety”, which will include support for existing and new web-based apps. Through this “Internet of Citizen Safety”, citizens can contribute intelligence, receive alerts and raise alarms, and collaborate in real-time with their neighbors and law enforcement.
The service connects users with agents who can help them if they are in danger or distress 24 hours a day. To order a safety agent, shake your phone three times while you have the Citizen App open. The service is free to users, and a safety agent can be ordered as often as you like.
The Citizen App was made for the safety of you and your community. Once you order a safety agent, they will be on their way to assist you within minutes. Safety agents are all highly trained to handle a variety of situations, no matter how serious. This means that agents can help with everything from stolen phones to injuries and crime scenes.
Safety agents are given access to your location information to get to you quickly, even if you’re on the other side of town. If you’re in danger, describe what is happening or send a photo or video to your safety agent. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can do so by disabling the location settings on your phone.
When you order a safety agent, a trusted citizen can be on their way to help within minutes. Our goal is to make the Citizen app available worldwide, and this service is another step toward that goal: We believe that every community in the world deserves safe places for people to live and work.
Citizen is a free app that can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices. The service for safety agents is currently in limited beta but will become available to public safety agencies as soon as we have enough trained agents available. See this article for additional information.
