Tom Keane: the Man Behind the Creation of the Windows 10 Technical Preview

Tom Keane has been working with Microsoft for the past 20 years and recently decided to leave the company. In his blog post announcement about leaving, the software developer explains that he’d like his time at Microsoft to be remembered for one big piece of work – a huge change that’s brought several new features and functionality to Windows.

As such, this is not just any blog post announcing his departure from the company – it is more of an in-depth retrospective of what Tom thinks brought him success while working on Windows during his tenure with Microsoft. It touches on everything from how Windows 10 was built and what surprises were in store for users when they switched to it.

Tom Keane Explains About DOS System

Tom Keane’s biggest accomplishment at Microsoft was the creation of the Windows 10 Technical Preview. He explains that, once he had been on the Windows team for a while, they asked him to develop a new cloud computing system where users could regularly see new features and functionality through Windows updates. It was an effort to get feedback on these updates ahead of time – to ensure users were comfortable with the changes coming down the pipeline for them.

Once Tom started working with other team members, they saw that keeping up with these new features and updates would be incredibly difficult – as it would mean having developers working around the clock to keep up. Tom Keane and his team understood that they needed a new system that could be used by all Windows users, which meant being able to deploy features and functionality in a single step across all of their PCs.
