Shelton Haynes, CEO of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, is one of New York City’s most successful young CEOs. Haynes is primarily responsible for overseeing the operations of public work projects on land known for being one of New York City’s most affluent neighborhoods.

Since he joined the organization, Haynes has led an ambitious plan to make Roosevelt Island more accessible with projects such as creating an aerial gondola to connect Roosevelt Island to Manhattan and renovating the historic buildings. Haynes’s leadership at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation led the corporation’s Youth Centre Development into a certified New York State School Age Child Care (SACC) center. The license, the first of its kind in New York City, ensures that children who attend the center have access to free and low-cost health care and social services. This will enable RIOC to increase its support to the community. Assistant Vice President of Communications Akeem Jamaal and Haynes are working on developing social amenities on the Island by building a pickleball court. Mr. Haynes has spearheaded several other initiatives that have positively impacted the Island. He has overseen the renovation of the Island’s Main Street, the construction of a new library, and the establishment of a community center that provides a range of services to residents. He has also worked to improve public transportation, including launching a new ferry service that connects Roosevelt Island to Manhattan.
