Shelton Haynes and the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation Leading the Way for Community Development

Shelton Haynes has been the President and CEO of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) since 2018. Under his leadership, the corporation has significantly developed the island’s community. Roosevelt Island is a unique place in New York City in the East River between Manhattan and Queens. With its tranquil and peaceful environment, the island has become a haven for many New Yorkers seeking a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.

One of the significant projects that the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation has recently completed under Haynes’ guidance is the Riverwalk neighborhood. The project was designed to provide a modern and functional living space for residents and is considered one of the most significant developments on the island in the last decade. Additionally, Shelton Haynes recently appointed a new Director and General Manager of the SportsPark facility, which the community has praised for its comprehensive and inclusive programs for youth.

Haynes has also been instrumental in developing plans for a new youth center on the island, which is expected to provide a safe and welcoming space for young people to gather and participate in various activities. The facility is set to become one of the important youth centers in the city and is expected to attract young people from all over New York.

In addition to his work on community development, Haynes has also been recognized for his efforts to honor the island’s rich history. Recently, he oversaw the unveiling of a memorial to keep the African Americans who were brought to the island as enslaved people in the 17th century.

Haynes’ leadership of the RIOC has been marked by a commitment to community development, inclusivity, and honoring the island’s unique history. With his vision and dedication, Roosevelt Island is becoming an increasingly desirable place to live and visit. The RIOC is positioning itself as a leading example of successful state-run agencies.
