Nick Milican Highlights: Spitalfields Trending?
Pop artists like Philip Colbert have fallen in love with the historical patch of East London known as Spitalfields. But as Nick Millican recalls, what is there to draw such famous personalities into the area?
Besides being a gathering place of sorts for other artists, Spitalfields can appeal to the following types: cultural buffs of course, history enthusiasts, and those who enjoy the atmosphere of a good place to eat.
Beyond having many artists living in the neighborhood, Spitalfields offers culture for enthusiasts through the Gilbert and George Centre and a local gallery. It has also historically been home to many famous eccentrics, as well as an important site in the development of street art. Even today, Nick Millican shares, you can find talented displays decorating the city streets within Spitalfields.
Cultural history is not the only historical significance Spitalfields offers its residents. It wouldn’t be much of a historical district if that was the scope of its significance, after all. Spitalfields keeps, in many ways, the feeling of past Londons alive today. According to Nick Millican, it preserves the architecture on older houses, complete sometimes with historical signs, and other old constructions like the Tower of London and the old city wall, bits of history from the Roman occupation to beyond. It even retains the historic market known as Petticoat Lane.
Nick Millican cleared more features. If you like food, you can find in Spitalfields the famous Poppies Fish & Chips. You can also eat at various pubs and cafes that the locals report as having a nice atmosphere that is very friendly to locals and artists.
Overall, Spitalfields has an atmosphere that beckons pop culture icons to it, Nick Millican finally states. The only complaint seems to be that it could do with a few more plants, but it still has spots for nature lovers to enjoy: Postman’s Park, the gardens at the local church, and access to the river.
