Ron Gutman was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 23, 1959; his roots are Jewish, and he was raised in Los Angeles. He attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration. After graduating, he returned to the United States Air Force, working in various administrative and leadership positions.
