- Early Life
Doug Haynes grew up and was raised in a middle-class neighborhood in the heart of New York City. His childhood was one of privilege and expectations for his future but also one of childlike wonder. In seventh grade, Doug met his lifelong friend and mentor, Jim Boggs. Jim was an eighth-grade dropout from rural Mississippi who lived on the streets with no furniture, no bathroom, and no hope for the future. After a few months, Doug’s family moved to Alaska, where he went to high school in Wasilla, Alaska, on one meal a day (a peanut butter sandwich). He graduated with honors from Wasilla High School after being elected as class president his senior year.
- Education
Doug attended Yale University, where he majored in economics and received his degree with honors. His three years at Yale University were a time of tremendous growth and maturity. The friends he made during this time continue to be a source of strength and support. He holds an MBA in Finance from New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business and an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration from the Ohio University Fisher College of Business at Appalachian State University.
Doug spent his early career as a corporate mergers and acquisitions banker at investment banks that included Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), Four Corners Capital, GCA Advisors, and Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB). He also worked as a registered representative for Merrill Lynch and Prudential Securities. He advised major corporations on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and financings, including McDonald’s, American Express, The Walt Disney Company, and Coca-Cola.
