A record distribution agreement brought Guy Blake and Damien Granderson together almost fifteen years ago. They have now established Granderson Des Rochers, a specialized entertainment agency, as its co-founders. Blake became an assistant at Davis Shapiro Lewit & Hayes, while Granderson became in-house counsel for Koch Entertainment.

This, after leaving Warner Chappell’s Legal & Business Affairs department. After the previously mentioned agreement was concluded, the successful entertainment lawyer began working alongside Blake at Davis Shapiro. According to Damien Granderson, the two got along well. Egos were left at the door as everyone worked together to fulfill the duties at hand and keep the customers happy.

The Birth of an Intertwined Vision

Granderson continues, “We had a dream for having a genuinely collaborative model, where a client would have not just one lawyer, but a group of lawyers to share their skills in whatever areas could benefit that client succeed.” This inspired the birth of our company. Damien Granderson adds that the formation of our law firm was motivated by a desire to provide comprehensive legal services to clients in a variety of fields, including the music, film, new broadcasting/tech, branding, and fashion industries.

In July, Granderson Des Rochers will have been in operation for three years between its New York City and Beverly Hills outposts. Damien Granderson has negotiated and closed significant partnerships with UMG, Fortnite, McDonald’s, and other companies on behalf of artists.

These include big super stars like J. Cole, Young Thug, H.E.R., NE-YO, Nicki Minaj, and Quality Control Music. Among the artists whose deals Blake has negotiated as the firm’s Managing Partner and Founder and Chair of the Music Publishing Practice are Cole, Balvin, Young Thug, Bernie Taupin, Harvey Mason Jr., Timbaland, Beluga Heights Records, Quality Control Music, H.E.R., and Primary Wave. Damien Granderson is up to now the most reliable entertainment lawyer currently at practice.
