In a transformative move, University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) alumnus Kelcy Warren has made a historic $12
million gift, the largest single philanthropic investment in the university’s
history. The generous donation will propel UTA to the forefront of the rapidly
expanding field of resource and energy engineering (REE). 

A member of The University of Texas System Board of Regents and executive chairman of Energy
Transfer LP, Warren is no stranger to success. His remarkable gift will support
faculty and research excellence in UTA’s new REE bachelor’s degree program,
providing students with unparalleled opportunities for educational and career advancement. 

The Kelcy Warren Endowed Professorship in Resource and Energy
Engineering will be established to attract and retain world-class faculty
members to lead the program. Additionally, two Kelcy Warren Endowed Faculty
Fellowships will recruit distinguished scholars to enhance the educational
experience in REE. State-of-the-art REE laboratory space and equipment funded
by Warren’s gift will empower faculty and students to explore innovative
solutions to pressing energy challenges. 

Warren’s gift will also establish the Kelcy Warren Career Experience Center, offering engineering
undergraduates valuable experiential learning opportunities, including
internships and cooperative education programs. Scholarships named after Warren
will be awarded to REE undergraduate students, known as Warren Scholars,
allowing them to pursue their educational goals. Furthermore, fellowships named
after Warren will support engineering graduate students interested in energy
industry careers upon graduation. 

One of the most significant aspects of Kelcy Warren’s philanthropy is its
focus on research experiences for engineering undergraduates, providing them
with the necessary skills for success in the energy industry and other
high-demand fields. With the launch of the REE bachelor’s degree program in the
fall of 2023, UTA will become the first university in the United States to
offer such a program, preparing students to apply engineering principles to energy systems. 

UTA President Jennifer Cowley expressed her gratitude, stating that Warren’s gift will
forever change the landscape of UTA and establish the university as a national
leader in the growing REE industry. Chancellor James B. Milliken of The
